My little piece of attention
I think our house has a curse when it comes to dishwashers. It seems like we can never keep one going for longer than a couple of years and then it just goes kaplooie. This time one of the hoses sprung a leak and the water just came gushing out. Mitch tried to fix it by pulling it out and looking but it took Andrew to get it all pulled apart and to see what the issue was beside the hole in the drain tube. The whole under pipes are clogged with a gray looking sludge. Makes you think— wow that was how our dishes were getting clean. So now we have to find some old discontinued parts or get a new dishwasher.
About the same time the water-bed that we used sprang a leak. It is next to impossible to get a new water-bed these days. So time to get a new bed also. All i can say about that is: Why are bed salespeople so creepy? why?
We are thinking after trying out so many beds that we want the one that has coils under a layer of the foam that is like that foam used in the temperpedic beds.
And also we have put off buying a couch for a year or so. Annie when she was less than a year old got left alone for a while and found a loose string in the couch and took after it. Foam was everywhere. I re-stuffed and sewed it back together but it is falling apart. So new couch here we come.
Finished reading Fannie’s Last Supper. It was a great book and I highly recommend it. What was great about it I was expecting a book on the making a of a great multi-course dinner but it was so much more. It also got into what Boston was like back then and how food was made and the rising middle class of America. That became so relevant to what is happening now.
Can you believe what is happening to the middle east? There it looks like in some ways the middle class is rising and saying that you have to treat us better.
Much different from here in the states. Can you believe Wisconsin is happening? I had expected something like this but more on either coast and not in the middle. I guess that is my bias thinking that the center of the country has a very conservative lean to it.
Christmas has come and gone and it seems that I was very good this year. I got even more than what I hoped for. And we got snow……it has been about a week with snow on the ground and a fire in the fireplace. Made it seem extra Christmasy to see all the lights and snow and cold. However I am done with it now, all the snow and below freezing weather can go away. If you want it take with you as you leave.
Christmas dinner was very good if I do say so myself. I will be writing more about the meal in the food section. But just to give you a hint…..the cooking lessons I got from Le Gourmand for Dec. made an appearance with a few additions from me. We had Greg, Cade and Matt for dinner. New Year eve was also Greg, Cade and Matt. Jeff and Andrew came out New Year’s day for games and what not. I do think a good time was had by all.
I finished my finals last night. Today I will turn in my WordPress project. Now I can get into working on the holidays without any distraction. I am so far behind from where I am at this time in years past. I would have already had all the cookies and candies made. The decorations all up instead of half up, half in the boxes sitting on the floor. But just a little work and Christmas will be here and done. Promise to take photos of the village and show them when I get it all done.
