I just got done with doing the reCAPTCHA contact page for class.  The changing of the code and the doing it was not  as hard as I had made it out to be.  But let me tell you reading that the class got banned in South America was very intimidating to get started.  I set it all up; added the keys,  set up the email, forwarded the email to an email box I look at regularly.  Then I set the value to TRUE(well first I set it to ‘true’– that didn’t work) and got my email.  It is sitting in my box.   Then because South America is still intimidating me I set the value back to FALSE.  So that is why the reply is on the page now instead of being sent out as an email.  I wanted to make sure when we go over it in class on Monday that I did indeed do it right before it is live so to speak. Now about the duplicate site contact page, it is made and up.  I did not yet sign up to get keys for it so no reCAPTACHA box there yet.  I wanted to wait to make sure I did in fact know how to do it before I set up the keys for my site.

Also it dawned on me that I had not been keeping up the duplicate site.  It was still just like it was in assignment one. It is all updated now including the sandbox. I added a link to the site on the construction page. Now it can be checked on that I am updating it also.  Plus this week I reread all the lessons again.  That was very good for me I and I think I will keep doing that until I don’t keep getting information out of them. I mean really at some point I hope that I will understand everything in them  forwards and backwards.

That is where I spent the most time this week was reading about 2.75 hours.

Next was cleaning up the documentation, fixing the includes for template.php, and getting the duplicate site back in order — 1.25 hours.

And Assignment 4 was about .75 hours broke up into a lot of little starts and stops.

UPDATE: Once we went over it in class, changed the contact page back to TRUE on zephir.  Still haven’t gotten to signing up -  to get the keys for the duplicate site.

This only took me about an hour to finish.  That was because I was making it too hard.  Once I got to the non showing errors (misspelled variable names) I started looking at the logic of the if statement.  Thinking that was what was wrong and going though trying to solve it.  And then I saw the variable names were spelled different ….. dohh!  Just as Bill and Portia have said look to the easy and obvious first and then go on to the harder things to fix.

Well I haven’t been very good at the daily posting have I….. But try to be easy with me this quarter my classes will keep me very busy.  The angst of the last couple of days is that I need to figure out how to do my C# homework at home and not just on the window machines at school.  I thought I had it figured out when I learned that I can check out Microsoft software at school.  So all I had to do was get a student copy of Parallels and then I can check out windows 7 and visual studio and all is good.  ahhh no….. the copy of windows 7 that I can get is an upgrade and that doesn’t work with either companies EULA.  But I think I have it figured out just a lot more installing.   I can get a full copy windows XP  and then install visual studio express which is all I need for C#.  I think, I hope, crossing my fingers.

Looking over this it is not really a blog post so much as a school post.  Oh well will try again to write a post not about school.

Well I think I have everything done for assignment two.  This took me way too long to carry out, not the real working — coding and image making — but the getting started. The actual time was 2 and half hours to get up and done.  To start with I was not really wanting to start the assignment because I didn’t really get what the assignment was going to eventually get used as.  That is hard for me when designing something.  I need a little something to go by.  In the end I just reused the site I made last quarter for Photoshop class  and change the css a bit.  I also made a quick logo/image to go with it.  Plus I cleaned up Assignment One making it a google doc now.  It is all updated on the profile page and the google doc has all the links that it needs and is working.

It will be an interesting quarter taking both C# and the PHP classes.  I see already that I need to somehow read and do the different assignments on different days or something.  This weekend I  read both together and did very poorly on the C# test.  This is going to have to change.  Also it doesn’t help that I am  working on a Mac, not so much for PHP but for the C#.  I installed mono but can’t figure out how to do anything like f5 in the program.  I can do the examples but not know if they are error free and run.  So I am going to get parallels and win7 and that I am sure will help.  So from now on the first part of the week is for  php and the last is for C#.  I’ll see how that goes.

As I read over this I see that a lot of it is about the C# and not PHP.  I hope that is alright for that was my biggest problem this week.

This is the first post for my 280 class.  I have spent a good part of the day trying to get it all to work for assignment one.  I had the domain already but needed to host it.  So this morning  I set up the hosting. Part of Dreamhost’s set up is to use Google apps. as part of the domain.  I needed to set up a cname record.  I followed the instructions and the wizard said it went though and worked.  I saw that and went great—- but then could not get it to work.  It kept telling me:

What is this?  Well I have found out that there are accounts and apps. and the dreamhost button sets you up for apps that needs a verification and then found a screen that says this site is in process.  That is what the cname record was for, duh.  So I will try to make the docs in a bit.

Now about the blog I was going to use this site that has my wordpress blog already set up but if you would like me to create a new one in blogger I will do it with no issue.  A personal blog might not be the best for this class.  However to keep things easy for both of us I was always going to make the ITC 280 class entries sticky so that they will appear first on the blog  and keep ITC 280 in the title.
